Escape to Nature

An Escape to Nature is a semester long group project focused on creating a lifestyle inspired by the outdoors. The development of this project started by taking the broad term of outdoors and seeing what that meant for every member of the team. Delving into these preliminary studies gave the team a common understanding to focus on. The team used this understanding to narrow our focus towards an overall high-end rustic theme to develop the criteria of this project. The first requirement being the development of a mood board or Rig. A 8' x 4' board that embodies our lifestyle as if letting one almost walk into it. In addition, each member of this group is meant to develop there own products that accentuates the lifestyles theme.

Ideation & Final Designs

The Knife
An outdoor hunting and survival fixed blade containing a recurve shaping that comes to a Normal Point. The handle is nothing less than Full Tang with a lanyard loop at its end. The handle sports a styled grip to form to the hand as to be comfortable and reliable during working sessions. On the spine of the blade are waves for added flare to identify brand along with styled Jimping incase one wishes to choke up on the blade and have more grip.

The Hatchet
An outdoor hunting and survival tool. The blade has a standard shape to add to the simple design that targets function and strength. The top spine has the featured waves for added flare to identify brand. Following the top spine to the outer spine of the hatchet is large Jimping for added texture and grip when choking/palming the top of the tool. Past the Jimping we are lead into the handle where we see a slight curve to give the hatchet a superior comfort when swinging and to help drive the blade home when chopping. Coming to the end of the handle; two features are displayed. One being the swell at base of the handle and the second being the lanyard loop. Both make sure the hatchet does not leave ones grip when in use.

The Lantern
Sketches based off of team member Lindsay Mazzeo's design during preliminary sketches (not shown) when the team focused on indoor/outdoor environmental lighting. Design features a slick minimalistic lantern structure with cut outs for fitted frosted glass panes. Framed with natural deer antlers (ethically sourced), all supported by a solid natural wood based. All seen in the Final Model.
